Chapter 14: Facing the Future

Outcome:

A year passes and election season looms. Xanadu founds its first embassy in Nairobi, and begins to build closer ties with those states that had retained its technology centers, especially those on the African continent.

Back home you face a tough reelection: You have been criticized for both being too isolationist and alienating the Xanadu and for being too lax and permissive in allowing their ascent to power. While your party has taken the line of getting ‘tough’ on Xanadu in foreign policy, your election advisor notes that the large wave of nationalism that first began throughout the western world in 2016, notably with Brexit, may represent an opportunity to solidify your support.

What do you do now?

Remain neutralYou will announce your intention to stand strong against Xanadu encroaching upon American interests, but avoid any overt nationalism.
Embrace nationalismEmphasize American superiority and the danger foreign state’s like Xanadu pose not only to your nation’s stature, but to your way of life.
Attempt to reverse your positionConflict driven identity politics are dangerous for all those involved. Change you campaigns position to one of cooperation with Xanadu, regardless of party platform.
