Chapter 9: International Economics: Basic Theory and Core Institutions
Outcome:
- You have chosen the purest protectionist, isolationist path possible. Your choices come with all of the pros and cons of protectionism and isolationism. Many domestic companies are very happy with your choices, especially your national champions. For the most part, your people also support your choices, as patriotism is running high in the aftermath of your independence and your populace supports the idea of a self-sufficient Abkhazia. Additionally, avoiding international institutions allows you to focus on development without becoming entangled in international affairs.
- However, there are also numerous drawbacks to the approach you have taken. You will receive no international aid from the IMF or World Bank. You will not have access to the UN or other international institutions for resolution of disputes. Additionally, you have intentionally avoided the global market, and all of the opportunities that come with international trade. Thus, while you may be able to develop domestically, your overall development will likely be gradual, and your involvement in regional and global affairs nonexistent for the foreseeable future.
